Tips on Choosing Beachwear by Aiden Brooks

Most people love the beach, and having a selection of beachwear in your wardrobe is essential if you’re a regular beach lover. If you’re unsure what to wear to the beach or need some help choosing beachwear, we have some tips to help.

Try everything on

Trying everything on is the best way to find out what you like and what you don’t feel comfortable wearing. There are so many styles of beachwear to choose from; one important tip we have is never discount anything until you’ve tried it on. It might take some time, and you might find it tedious to try things you're not sure about, but you’ll likely discover a new type of swimsuit or bikini that you love but wouldn’t have considered previously. This is especially important if you haven’t been to the beach in a while and have changed shape or your style has changed. Go into the changing room and be honest with your style, try to avoid holding things in or standing in a certain way, take your time with this process and ensure you’re completely comfortable with the items you choose to buy. Choose to go to the shops to try things on when you’re in a good mood; that can help you find something that you love. If you prefer to buy online, choose a retailer that will let you send items back once you’ve tried them on; always check the policy when it comes to buying swimwear.

Sizing

When you’re buying swimwear and stuck between sizes, you’re better to opt for the smaller size. Swimwear tends to stretch as it gets wet, and when you wear it, a slightly more snug size is better than something too big or baggy. However, you need to feel comfortable and not restrict yourself, so don’t buy anything too tight and uncomfortable, especially if you’re going on holiday and are likely to indulge in delicious food and drink whilst you’re away.

Beach dresses and cover-ups

Beachwear isn’t just about a bikini or a swimming costume; you may also want a cover-up or beach dress. You can find a whole range of beach dresses and cover-ups; they’re great for making you feel more comfortable on the beach and preventing sunburn or minimising sun exposure. Online clothing stores in Australia have plenty of options for beach dresses; try to opt for a light fabric that you can wear over your swimwear that’s also stylish but will keep you cool. When choosing a beach dress, opt for a larger size; beach dresses tend to be flowing and light, and oversized suits this style of dress; plus, there is nothing worse than putting on a tight-fitting dress over slightly damp swimwear. Bright, bold styles and prints work well at the beach, but most of all, choose something you love that will last you for years.

Accessories

You’ll likely need some accessories when you go to the beach to keep you safe, cool and looking great. A pair of sunglasses is essential to protect your eyes and make things more comfortable. In addition, a sun hat can stop your hair from drying out in the sun and protect your scalp, neck and face from sun damage. A beach bag is also a good idea; you’ll want to carry a towel, sunscreen and other items such as water and potentially a book to read on the beach; a good-sized beach bag will have plenty of room for all of these items.

Shoes

Sandals and flip-flops are the prime choices for shoes to wear on the beach; they’re easy to take off when you get on the sand, and you can shake off any extra sand easily when you leave the beach. Your choice of shoes will depend on how far you will be walking. Some sandals provide excellent support and are comfortable walking for several miles, and others are only suitable for short walks. Even supportive sandals can also be stylish; find a style you love to wear that also offers the support you need to be comfortable.

Above all, the best advice when it comes to buying beachwear is to choose items you love and feel comfortable wearing.
